Welcome to my page!

I am a Mum to an adult daughter diagnosed with schizophrenia in the UK.

When my daughter became ill I found myself researching online for answers, information, treatment, guidance and support to help me learn, adjust, cope and hold onto hope that things can get better.

I want to provide a place to share information that I have found helpful to me and I hope will be helpful to others.

I believe there is a severe lack of support and education given to carers about schizophrenia in the UK, in particular regarding anosognosia.  I have found the only option I have had, is to research and educate myself, which has made a big positive difference to the communication and relationship I have with my daughter.

I am not a writer or a mental health professional, but what I am is a devoted mum to an amazing daughter who suffers from schizophrenia.  I grieve every day for my daughter.  I see her everyday, not the girl she use to be, but still my girl who I am so very, very proud of.  I live with the hope and determination that she will be happy and well again one day and that she will no longer suffer from this life destroying disease that has stolen her from me.

I know what it feels like when your world is turned upside down and you feel like a ton of bricks has crashed upon you, once this disease presents itself.

I know how it feels to see your child everyday and grieve for the person they use to be, knowing things will never quite be the same, but never giving up on HOPE that they may be.

I know what it feels like when you are desperately trying to get help from professionals and are told 'we cant do anything unless they are a danger to themselves or others'

I know what it is like watching your child sink further and further into a world detached from reality, but then capable of masking it from any help you may be able to obtain from mental health services.

I have experienced the difficulties and frustration of dealing with mental health services and the dysfunctional, old and outdated mental health system.

This page is a work in progress, the more information I find along this journey the more the page will grow.

Everything is written from my own opinion and experience, I appreciate that not everyone will agree with all the content, but I hope the information, links to books, websites and podcasts do provide help and let carers know they are not alone.
